FAMILY HEALTH AWARENESS CAMPAIGN IN THE ENTIRE STATE TO IDENTIFY AND TREAT RTI/STDCASES:
 
 

HIV infection in the community is mainly due to unsafe sexual practices for which it is proposed to strengthen and stream line STD/RTI cases management in a effective manner. it has been planned to conduct the next round of family health awareness campaigns in a better way so as to provide the treatment for male and female partners simultaneously without ommision. it has also been planned to conduct out-reach camp to treat STD/RTI cases in Town Panchayat level apart from the municipal area. There will be focus on STD cases management in ongoing primary health care delivery system by organizing periodical STD/RTI clinic in Block PHC.

 
COMMUNITY CARE CENTRES IN HIGH RISK AREAS TO PROVIDE CARE AND COUNSELLING:
 

Care and support of the HIV/AIDS case are the need of the hour. During the year 2001-2002, it has been proposed to establish community care centres with active involvement of NGOs in various places so as to provide treatment for opportunistic infections and other care/support activities for AIDS cases. The Community Care Centres will function as a health care facility in between home care management and treatment in hospitals.

 
MASSIVE AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS IN ALL HIGH RISK DISTRICTS TO CREATE BETTER IMPACT:
 

At present, five revenue districts has been identified as high risk areas. For this high risk areas, it is quite essential to focus massive awareness generation activities to create better impact in HIV/AIDS prevention programmes. For this Rs 20 lakhs has been earmarked for each district and this amount will at the disposal of the District Collector for implementing regular and innovative activities during the year 2001-2002. The District AIDS Advisory Committee will plan and execute the programme in a successful manner under the Charimanship of the District Collector.

 
VOLUNTARY COUNSELLING AND TESTING CENTRES IN ALL DISTRICTS TO IDENTIFY HIV AFFECTED AND TO PROVIDE COUNSELLING:
 

Testing facilities for HIV status is quite necessary both for individuals and for programme management for organizing an effective containment programme management for organizing an effective containment programme. At present such facilities are available only in 11 places. During the year 2001-2002, Voluntary counselling and testing centres will be functioning in all district headquarters hospitals and in medical college hospitals in which any individual can test his blood for HIV status for a nominal fees of Rs.10/= only. Required counselling in the form of pre-test and post-test counselling are also available. in these centres.

 
PROMOTION OF SOCIAL MARKETING OF CONDOMS IN URBAN AND RURAL AREAS TO REDUCE HIV TRANSMISSION:
 

Condom promotion activity is an important intervention to prevent STD. Promotion of subsidized or low priced condoms (Deluxe Nirodh) among the people in Targetted Intervention areas and non-intervention areas with the support of non-governmental organisations has been placed to implement during the current year.

 
DECENTRALIZED STRATEGIES WITH THE INVOLVEMENT OF ALL SECTORS TO MAKE HIV CONTROL A DEVELOPMENTAL ISSUE:
 

HIV/AIDS is not only a health problem but it must be viewed as a social problem, which will be detriemental to developmental activities. Hence in future there is a need for Inter Sectorial Colloboration to prevent HIV transmission in the community. Involvement of various agencies like Railways, Port Trust Industries, Red Cross, Public Transport will be made possible by duly co-ordinating their efforts in HIV prevention programme.

 
STRENGTHENINGOF GOVT HOSPITAL FOR THORACIC MEDICINE, TAMBARAM WITH THE SUPPORT OF CD, ATLANTA AND GOVERNMENT OF INDIA:
 

Action will be taken to improve the services of govt hospitals for thoracic medicine in management of HIV/AIDS cases. The Cenre for Disease Control at Atlanta agreed in principle provide fundds to the tune of Rs. 5 crores for improving hospital in Tambaram. In-patient facility services, laboratory services etc. will be focused in this project, beside this hospital will function as an apex institute for training the medical and paramedical staff in the field fo HIV/AIDS.
